Student’s Bedroom

Your bedroom should have the following provisions:

  • Bed
  • Desk
  • Chair
  • Dresser
  • Closet
  • Linens
  • Blankets
  • Towels
  • Internet Access

You will most likely share a bathroom with another member of the household.


Your family will also let you know their schedule. They will give you a key to the house or plan to be home to let you in. Please be sure not to lose the house key because there will be a charge to you for lost keys.

Emergency Information

Your host family will help you complete the Host Family Emergency Contact Form .

Medical Insurance

Your host family will have the details of your U.S. health insurance plan and benefits, as well as a phone number to call in case of an emergency.


You may be expected to do your own laundry.  In that case, the host family will show you how to use their laundry/dryer machines.


Your host family will drive you to and from school every day, as well as to any extracurricular activities.


Your host family will provide you with three meals, seven days a week. This includes breakfast, lunch (packed sandwich, snacks for school days) and a sit­ down dinner with the host family.


You will not be allowed to travel on your own while you are in the U.S. Travel is allowed only through school-organized activities or with your host family.

Summer Time

Your host family will expect you to spend your summer in the U.S. However, if you are planning to spend the summer in your home country, you will need to notify AE of your departure date two months in advance.
